| (BEIJING, Sept. 8) -- A total of 157,867 people in Beijing, most of them campus students, have registered to be volunteers for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the past 11 days since the launch of the recruitment on August 28.
The Beijing Olympic Games Volunteer Work Coordination Group said as of 17:00 September 7, 120,209 university students and teachers in Beijing had applied through the campus recruitment offices, accounting for 76.1 percent of the total applicants.
Meanwhile, a total of 581,761 people had inquired about application matters, with inquiries from the universities standing at 477,187. The Beijing Olympic Call Center had received 30,679 phone inquiries, including 192 from overseas.
A total of 70,000 volunteers will be needed for the Olympic Games and another 30,000 for the Paralympic Games. The majority of the volunteers will come from universities in Beijing, with the rest from other parts of the country and abroad.
