Green Olympics In Beijing 2004 - BOCOG's Environmental Activities (4)

    Communication and Education Activities

    In 2004, BOCOG has been putting its efforts into various communication and education activities on environmental protection.

    1. "Green Olympics, Green Action" Promotion Team



    Cooperating with the Capital Spiritual Civilization Office, Commission of Science and Technology of Beijing, Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau, Association of Science and Technology of Beijing and Beijing Environmental Protection Fund, BOCOG organized the environmental promotion team including the exper ts, scholars as well as volunteers. Chairman of IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education He Zhenliang and IOC Sports and Environment Commission member Deng Yaping are honoured the advisors.

    The promotional team will give lectures for the local communities, schools and enterprises on the idea of Green Olympics in order to raise people's environmental awareness, encourage them to take action and support "Green Olympics".

    2. Volunteer Planting

    On the Voluntary Tree-Planting Day of Beijing, BOCOG staff members, some Olympic champions and famous athletes attended a voluntary planting activity named "Hosting Green Olympics and Building Ecological City". Each of them did his own bit for the beautification of Beijing.



    3. Green Olympics Column on BOCOG Website

    In 2004, Green Olympics column was developed by Environmental Activities Department and Media and Communications Department of BOCOG. In Chinese, English and French, the Green Olympics column will give live report on BOCOG's environmental activities, update the progress of Beijing Municipal Government in environmental protection, infrastructure construction and pollution prevention and treatment.

    4. Communication materials development


Green Olympics: Idea & Action

    In 2004, BOCOG compiled several communication materials such as Green Construction Guidelines of Olympic Projects, "Green Olympics: Idea and Action", etc, so as to promote the idea of Green Olympics to the public.

    Meanwhile, a film was also developed to present the progress of Beijing in environmental protection in the past three years since Beijing won the bid.

    5. Green Curriculum Table



    BOCOG designed curriculum table made of recycled paper specially for middle school and primary school students. Logo of BOCOG, some knowledge of Olympic Games and environmental protection are printed on it.

    250,000 pieces were presented to students, and the idea of Green Olympics and knowledge of environmental protection were communicated as well. Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice president of BOCOG attended the presentation ceremony.

    6. Training of Journalists



    About 100 registered journalists were trained and their understanding of the idea of Green Olympics greatly improved.
