Skokova wins Russia sixth gold on 1,000m speed skating

TURIN, Italy, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Julia Skokova won the sixth gold medal for Russia from the victory of the women's 1,000m speed skating Monday at the Winter Universiade.

The Russian timed one minute and 17.33 seconds to beat Japanese Nao Kodaira, who placed second on 1:17.92.

Poland's Katarzyna Wojcicka won the bronze on 1:18.60, her third medal of the Universiade after a gold in the 1,500m and a silver in the 3,000m.

Mark Ooijevaar won the men's 10,000m with a clear margin on 13:28.42, 15.58 seconds faster than the second-placed Artem Belousov of Russia.

Kim Myung Seok of South Korea finished third on 13:44.18.
