| BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's wild card entry Sun Tiantian recovered from the second set wobble to battle for a 2-1 first round win over Russia's Vera Zvonareva here at the China Open WTA tournament on Monday. A tearful Zvonareva finished a disappointing third set at 2-6 due to either some controversial calls or her own depressing shape after leveling the match 1-1. The whole match, however, abounded with all kinds of unforced errors with 18 for Sun and 20 registered under Zvonareva's name. The 29th-ranked Zvonareva had nine double faults against five for Sun. Olympic women's doubles winner Sun started strongly at the opening set, where she scored 15 of all the 20 points on her first serves. She saved all three break points and broke her opponent once before wining 6-4. But the Russia's former world top ten player found some ground strokes back in the second to beat Sun 6-1.
