Chinese steel giant, Shougang Group, is making steady progress with its
relocation plans, and will make further changes and adjustments in the near
future.
According to the plans, in coming months Shougang will continue to reduce
outputs with the aim of eventually relocating its manufacturing plants out of
Beijing to a new base in Tangshan, Hebei province. The group’s headquarters,
R&D division and non steel-making sectors will remain in Beijing,
however.
Shougang also pledged to update equipment in its manufacturing plants, using
environmentally friendly material wherever possible in order to improve
efficiency and protect the environment.
The National Development and Reform Commission has officially approved the
plans. Officials from the commission have said that the move is not simply a
duplication of plans already in action by manufacturing plants in other cities.
Instead, the plans are recognised as positive in that they will not only enhance
the environment in Beijing, but will also help China meet a demand for further,
state-of-the-art industrialization at a national level.
