Environmental guideline for the Olympic Project (Abstract) - Landscaping

    1.General requirements

    All constructions of the Olympic Park shall be carried out under the instruction of the master plan to form complete green land system. Greening rate of the construction projects shall be higher than the related index specified in "regulations for Urban Landscaping of Beijing."

    The landscape planning and design of the Olympic Park shall emphasize integrity and uniformity of the park, and stress characteristics and variation of different functional areas.

    The planning and design of garden planting shall refer to related requirements in 'Several Suggestions on Urban Green Land Planting by Beijing Garden Bureau' (Municipal Government JINGZHENBAN[2001] No.55). Arbor trees shall be the main plant and the rate of multi-layer planting structure for combination requirements and environmental condition in special areas shall be considered and scientific and artistic distribution shall be stressed to exert ecological and landscaping function of garden plants.

    All facilities within green land shall meet the environmental requirements of energy and water conservation. Scientifically irrigating methods and facilities should be adopted.

    Generally, the advantages of virescence should be taken to ensure the capacity of maintaining CO2, and enhance the micro-environment.

    2.Olympic Forest Park

    Olympic forest park, as a main part of Olympic park, covers a land of 680 hectares, and it is an integrated municipal park with exertion of ecological benefit as its main purpose. In future, it will be a green buffer for urban area with the following functions:

    (1) Ecological improvement: it will be the environmental support for Olympic stadiums and commercial zones and will generate positive influence on improvement of environmental quality in a certain area.

    (2) Environmental beautification: it will shape the landscape of the park itself and form an extensive green background at the end of the urban axis.

    (3) Provision of recreation area: it has a good location and scale and shall become a municipal park serving citizens.
