(BEIJING, Sept. 26) -- Kevan Gosper, chairman of International Olympic
Committee Press Commission voiced his conviction that journalists and
photographers will be happy with living and working conditions at the Media
Village during the 2008 Olympic Games.
He made the remark when visiting the village, the Main Press Center and
Olympic competition venues together with attendees of the 1st World Press
Briefing for the 2008 Games.
"It's magic, it's magic!" a representative of Algerian News Agency was amazed
by the National Stadium, now under construction. The stadium, dubbed "the bird's
nest" because of its unique shape, will be used as the main stadium to stage the
opening and closing ceremonies and other events.
The stadium and another major project, the National Aquatics Center, or
"water cube", are especially impressive, reporters said.
On Monday, the media toured the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Forbidden
City, Beijing's hutongs and other scenic spots.
The press briefing, hosted by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games
of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and due to open on Thursday, will update the world
media on the preparatory work for the Beijing Olympics, media operations in
particular, and hear their opinions and suggestions.
