BRUSSELS, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Dutch skaters swept the world allround speed
skating championships on Sunday in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
Sven Kramer broke his own world record in the 10,000-meter to wrap up the
men's overall title in style and join countrywoman Ireen Wust in a Dutch sweep
of the championships on the final day's competition at the Thialf oval in
Heerenveen.
"It was so great," said Kramer, whose time of 12:49.88 put him more than five
seconds ahead of countryman Carl Verheijen and more than 19 seconds in front of
third-place finisher Eskil Ervik of Norway.
Kramer set the foundation for his allround victory on Friday night with a
victory in the 5,000m in a track record time and a fifth-place finish in the
500.
Kramer placed a disappointing sixth in the 1,500m on Saturday, giving Enrico
Fabrice of Italy a slim chance of catching him in the overall standings.
However, Fabris finished fourth in the 10,000m to end up second overall, with
Verheijen coming in third overall.
