"Green Olympics" is one of the three themes for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The key work is to incorporate the concept of sustainable development into the Games preparations and to protect the environment, conserve the resources and maintain the ecological balance. Through hosting the Olympic Games, the urban ecological condition and environmental infrastructures will be improved, educational activities will be widely organized to raise public awareness, and a rich environmental legacy will be left to Beijing and the world.

   As the Olympic Games entered its Beijing cycle in 2005, a painting competition, "Green dreams, Colorful Olympics", has been launched among the middle school and primary school students in Beijing by BOCOG Environmental Activities and Cultural Activities departments. Over 2000 students participated from about 100 schools including those for the migrant workers' children, Hope Primary Schools, special education schools and international schools. They collect old newspaper ever day and exchange for recycled pencils and paper. They have also gained a good understanding of "Green Olympics" by listening to the lectures given by "Green Olympics, Green Actions" promotion team. Using these recycled pencils and on recycled paper, the children have painted their beautiful dreams of "Green Olympics" and environment for tomorrow.

   In order to increase the learning and communication between the participants and encourage more young people to participate in the work for "Green Olympics", we have selected some winner paintings and published this picture-book of "Green dreams, Colorful Olympics". We hope everyone can start from themselves and from small things and work hand in hand to conserve water and resources. Together we can create a beautiful environment, with blue sky and clean water, to welcome the 2008 Olympic Games.
