(BEIJING, May 24) -- Quincy Jones, well-known American music impresario, record producer, film composer and multi-Grammy Awards winner said Wednesday that he is willing to compose a theme tune for the Beijing Olympic Games.
The reason for him to join 2008 Olympic composers is his love for China and Chinese culture, he told a news briefing at the headquarters of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).
Paying tribute to the theme slogan of Beijing Olympics, he said "One World One Dream" is the best Olympic slogan he has ever seen in terms of its depth and width. To work on a theme for the Games is an honor and a sense of success, he told Chinese and foreign media.
The 73-year-old master said his work will contain many international elements but its core will be Chinese culture in hopes that it will embody much Chinese content to let the world know more about China.
BOCOG Executive Vice President Jiang Xiaoyu extended thanks for Jones' friendly gesture, saying his example may inspire more artists from around the world to offer beautiful songs for the 2008 Games.
The public search for Olympic songs will continue and the final choice will be made only in 2008, Jiang said.
BOCOG has alerted interested music-lovers and professional composers that the third-round campaign to solicit Olympic songs will end on June 1. However, the fourth round will come next year. So far more than 500 pieces of music and 5000 lyric works have been contributed by participants from home and abroad.
