Nowadays, blonde American nurses, handsome French chefs, highly-skilled Japanese barbers and cool Swiss dietitians can often be seen in Shanghai, and ordinary Shanghainese can afford to enjoy their high-quality services.

Suzanne, from the US, works as an assistant accoucheuse in Shanghai. Actually, many foreigners like Suzanne choose to work in Shanghai's service sector.

According to latest statistics from Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Labor Insurance, the number of foreign employees in Shanghai increased by 20,189 in 2006, the first time to break 20,000. The figure three years ago, however, was only some 10,000.

By the end of 2006, there were more than 54,000 foreign employees from 133 countries and regions working in Shanghai, including both office workers, senior technicians, and service personnel. At present, there should be at least 57,000 of them registered in the city.

In the past, Chinese often had to pay high salary to invite foreign experts to work in China, but today, Shanghai has attracted so many of foreigners with its booming economy and ample job opportunities.
