Fellow researchers from the Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences and personnel from schools of various levels in Beijing voluntarily established the Beijing Society of Education on Sustainable Development August 3, 2004. The society also attracts interested persons from all walks of life in Beijing.

The society aims to promote education on sustainable development and guide young people and school students to take an active part in social welfare activities to advance economic, social and environmental development of Beijing in a sustainable way.

The society will organize various educational activities across the educational sectors, including public education, scientific research, teachers training, academic exchanges and reform of teaching.
