LONDON, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Peter Taylor has resigned as England under-21 head coach on Thursday to focus on his job as Crystal Palace manager.

Taylor, 54, thus ended his second spell as the England under-21 team manager since July 2004. He first coached the side from August 1996 to June 1999.

"I can't do it anymore and devote my time to helping the team ahead of June's European under-21 championship in Holland," Taylor said. "Anybody coming in would have to commit a lot to the job. I'm sad but I've had a great time with England."

The Football Association was expected to appoint his successor later Thursday.
