International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has appointed a Zambian as
accompanying referee in FIBA's Zone Six championship, the Post reported on
Friday.
In the letter of appointment from Africa Zone secretary-general of FIBA
Alphonse Bile, Mweshi Munatamba will be part of the call of the referees at the
games.
Zambia Basketball Association General Secretary Mwembe Kaona confirmed the
appointment and said Munatamba is classified as an accompanying referee because
teams of his home country will be taking part, according to the Post.
Three clubs, two men's and one women's, will present Zambia in the incoming
event.
"This will be Munatamba's second FIBA Africa Zone assignment after having
officiated at the Under-20 African championships that were held last December in
Maputo," Kaona was quoted as saying.
Munatamba, the country's only international basketball referee, made his
debut in the match between Mozambique and Mali at last year's Second African
Women Championships.(Xinhua)
