Chorus paying tribute to peace and friendship

(BEIJING, July 13) -- The 8th China International Chorus Festival was opened in Beijing Thursday night, attracting over 30 Chinese and foreign chorus troupes.

Choruses from Russia, New Zealand, Japan and other countries and regions amazed spectators at the Great Hall of the People with characteristic performances while singers from China's minority nationalities and special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao expressed their best wishes for the 2008 Olympic Games and aspirations for a happier live.

The China International Chorus Festival was launched in 1992. Since then, it has become a regular event which takes place once every two years. Participants see it helpful to promoting peace, friendship and mutual understanding.

The current festival lasts until next Monday.
