The Beijing Olympic Volunteers refer to people from all walks of life who serve the people, society and the Olympics by providing voluntary services during the preparatory period and games-time of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
2. What is the total demand for Games-time volunteers?
According to the survey on the demand for Games-time volunteers conducted by the departments of BOCOG to meet the need of the Beijing Olympics, there will be 70,000 volunteers for the Olympics and about 30,000 people volunteering for the Paralympic Games.
3. What are the basic requirements for the Games-time volunteers
(1)Volunteer to take part in the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games;
(2) Born on or before June 30, 1990, healthy;
(3) Abide by the Chinese laws and regulations;
(4) Be able to take part in the training and relevant activities before the Games;
(5) Be able to serve for seven consecutive days for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games;
(6) Applicants who speak Chinese as a native language should have some basic skills in foreign languages. Applicants who do not speak Chinese as a native language should have basic communication skills in Chinese;
(7) Have the professional knowledge and skills necessary for the positions in which they will serve.
4. About the sources of the Games-time volunteers.
Volunteers for the Olympic and Paralympic Games will mainly be recruited in Beijing area with the college students as the main body as well as a certain number of the personnel from relevant departments, residents of various provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, compatriots of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, overseas Chinese and foreigners.
5. Where will the Games-time volunteers serve?
Most of the Games-time volunteers will serve in and around the venues (including the competition venues, non-competition venues and training venues) during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Some volunteers will not have fixed posts and will not be tied to specific venues.
6. To whom and in what areas are volunteer services offered
In light of the experience of previous Games and our demand, the volunteers will serve members of the Olympic family, media journalists, sponsors, spectators and other relevant personnel. The areas where their services will be offered mainly include guest reception, translation, transportation, security, medical services, spectators services, communication and liaison, support for competition organizations, support for venue operation, press operation support and cultural activity support.
7. What incentive measures are there to encourage Games-time volunteers?
The reward of the volunteers will mainly be moral encouragement. Volunteers' enthusiasm will be stirred by providing certificates, medals or titles of honor. In light of the length and effectiveness of their services, volunteers will obtain souvenirs of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. After the Games, a commemorative facility will also be set up for the volunteers. Those who fail to perform their duties or violate the rules of BOCOG shall be stripped of their qualifications to be volunteers during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
8. What guarantees will Games-time volunteers get?
In light of the practices with volunteers in previous Olympic and Paralympic Games, we will issue identification cards for volunteers, provide work uniforms and equipment, food and beverages during work, free public transport services in specific sections and personal accident insurance during work.
9. What are the rights of the Games-time volunteers?
The Games-time volunteers can mainly enjoy the following seven rights:
First, to know the policy for Games-time volunteers;
Second, to express their hopes as to where they would like to work before they are assigned to work posts;
Third, to obtain necessary work guarantees;
Fourth, to safeguard their lawful rights;
Fifth, to take part in the appraisal and rewards for the volunteers;
Sixth, to make comments and suggestions on the work of volunteers;
Seventh, to apply to withdraw from the services.
10. The obligations of the Games-time volunteers?
There are mainly seven obligations for the volunteers to fulfill:
First, to observe the Olympic Charters and International Paralympic Committee Charter and spread the spirit of the Olympics;
Second, to observe the policies and regulations of BOCOG;
Third, to fulfill the voluntary service agreement signed with BOCOG;
Fourth, to follow the direction of BOCOG over their posts and sites of services;
Fifth, to obey the commands and directions of BOCOG and fulfill their tasks attentively;
Sixth, to take part in relevant training;
Seventh, to follow the management of the team where they are placed during their period of service.
11. How will the Games-time operation of volunteer program managed?
The Games-time volunteers will be mainly subject to the function area manager in the venue team during the Games time.
