(BEIJING, August 1) -- In his latest interview with the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Mr. Hein Verbruggen, Chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, spoke highly of BOCOG's preparatory work for the Games in the past 6 years.
"Successful in all areas"
Speaking of the work, Mr. Verbruggen said the staff of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) "has been very successful until now in all areas."
"We've never had serious issues that I had to report on. A lot of effort and a lot of work must have gone into that. And I think that what worked for us was that we could continue to work with the same persons under the leadership of Mr. Liu Qi," he said.
"You know, he (Mr. Liu Qi) was first, president of the bid committee and afterwards president of the organizing committee, and not only him, there were other persons around him, so that immediately gave us some kind of a link of confidence between us. I must say that I'm serious when I cannot report on any serious issue that we've had in the preparations," he added.
On IOC's close cooperation with BOCOG, Mr. Verbruggen said "from the very beginning BOCOG was one of those organizing committees that was very, very open for what we (IOC) could bring to them, and they have always welcomed these suggestions and also the advice that we give, and that of course is very gratifying."
He said with the planning and organization phases winding up in the whole preparatory framework, now is the time of execution. He underlined the importance of the command, coordination and control systems for the upcoming Good Luck Beijing sport events.
