(BEIJING, July 14)--A key component of the International Forum on 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Forum on Olympic Music, was held in Beijing on Friday, attracting more than 120 composers, music experts and amateurs both home and abroad to discuss Olympic music innovation. Giorgio Moroder, composer of the renowned 1988 Seoul Olympic theme song Hand in Hand, and Christopher Gordon, music director of the Opening Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, were invited to showcase their successful experiences on sport music composition. Delivering a speech at the forum, Wang Ning, Culture and Ceremonies Department director with the Beijing Olympic organizing committee, introduced the organizers efforts on Olympic music creation. The Olympic song solicitation campaign for Beijing 2008 served as the main approach to Olympic music creation, and contributed to spreading the spirit of the Olympic Games. Committee Executive Vice-President Jiang Xiaoyu called on the music professionals to join the creation of works for the Olympics. The attendees engaged in panel discussions in the second half of the forum on the themes and lyrics of the Olympic songs and the international cooperation during the creation. An important event of the 4th Beijing Olympic Festival, the forum was seen helpful to advance the Olympic preparatory work and the host citys development.
