The medical hotline, 12320, was opened to the public only six months ago, but
it has helped 70,963 callers, most of whom have received timely treatment due to
the help of the hotline.
Last May 16, at 22:15 in the night, the flight attendants of flight 565
called the hotline to say that a young woman on board was suffering from sudden
mandibular dislocation when the plane was flying over the Pacific. The nearest
airport was hours away, and there were no doctors aboard.
Acting upon the instruction of the staff member of the hotline, the flight
attendants fixed the jaw of the young woman with splints, winning time for her
before she could see the doctor at the destination airport.
Ms. Wang, a migrant worker, called the hotline after her husband was bitten
by a centipede. The staff member who received her call told her to wash the
wound with soapy water, and asked how her husband felt. However, he was not very
well, as the wound turned black and he was very dizzy. Thus the hotline
recipient helped Ms. Wang contact the nearest hospital. Five minutes later,
Wang's husband was in the emergency room, and his life was saved.
