(BEIJING, April 8) -- Millions of Beijing citizens have taken advantage
of the favorable climate conditions in April to plant trees to create a better
environment for the 2008 Olympic Games.
President Hu Jintao and other senior leaders, leading officials from central
government ministries and Beijing municipal departments, officers and men of the
military and police, school children and local residents have joined the
campaign.
Beijing plans to plant a total of 12,000 hectares of trees, to increase the
green coverage of the urban area to 43 percent and the per capital green area to
48 square meters in 2007.
