(BEIJING, Jan. 19) -- Beijing authorities will establish a real-time
monitoring system to check the quality of river and lake waters and will make
public the results quarterly.
The water quality report will be released through media including websites of
Municipal Water Authority and Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, and a
hotline will be ready for citizens to report any pollution cases, Director of
the Municipal Water Authority Jiao Zhizhong told Beijing Daily.
Jiao said in 2007, water supply from Miyun Reservoir to rivers and lakes in
urban central area and Olympic central area will be increased and the city will
construct another five sewage treatment plants with an aim to increase daily
treatment capacity to 2.68 million cubic meters, about 95 percent of the city's
waste water to be treated. In 2008, urban waste water pipelines are expected to
reach a length of 3,200 kilometers.
The city plans to build another four water recycling plants in 2007, raising
